SHORT BIO

Pianist Alejandro Vela has performed in recital and with well-known orchestras around the world. He was first taught by his mother in northern Mexico then studied with Robert Avalon as a high school student in Houston. He then attended Juilliard, earning both Bachelor's and Master's degrees under Yoheved Kaplinsky. Alejandro Vela has returned often to Mexico to perform with many of the country's orchestras including the Mexico City, Querétaro, Coahuila and Guadalajara philharmonics, the State of Mexico, Carlos Chávez and Xalapa symphonies and with many American ones, including the Chicago, Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Knoxville, Asheville and York symphonies, as well as orchestras in Israel, Canada, Dominican Republic and the Czech Republic.
